Our fellowship prides itself on scheduling flexibility and allowing fellows to craft their education to meet their career goals. With that in mind, there are still ACGME requirements for board eligibility. A typical fellows’ schedule through three years might look like this:

First Year

  • 3 weeks Fellows’ Boot Camp

  • 2 weeks Ultrasound Essentials course

  • 2 months UC MICU

  • 2 months VA MICU

  • 1 month (2 2-week blocks) ICU Nights (at UC)

  • 3 months pulmonary consults (between UC and the VA)

  • 1 month Drake LTACH

  • 2 weeks Sleep Clinic

  • 2 weeks PFTs/Physiology

  • 2 weeks Outpatient clinic

  • 2 weeks Research

Second Year (In second and third year there are many more 2-week blocks rather than full months, time is total for the year)

  • 1 month MICU (either VA, UC, or a mix)

  • 1 month (2 2-week blocks) ICU Nights

  • 1 month (continuous) Neuro ICU

  • 1 month (continuous) Surgical ICU

  • 1 month Consults (either UC or VA)

  • 1 month Interventional Pulmonary

  • 1 month Drake LTACH

  • 2 weeks PFTs/Physiology (elective)

  • 2 weeks Sleep Clinic

  • 3 months Research

  • 1 month Discretionary

Third Year

  • 1 month MICU

  • 2 months Discretionary

Discretionary time can be spent on inpatient services if there are scheduling gaps; otherwise it will be up to the fellow to determine how they want to further their development.
